About Supervised Injecting Facilities

Supervised Injecting Facilities are designed to....
reduce the number of deaths and injury from drug overdose, enhance access to health and social welfare services (such as addiction treatment) for injecting drug users, reduce the number of people injecting in public and the amount of discarded injecting equipment. Also to reduce the spread of blood-borne viruses such as Hepatitis C and HIV.

Clients are offered assistance and referrals from registered Nurses and Health Education Officers who are present to help. Injecting rooms are simply supervised centres which do not provide drugs to clients but offer medical attention if required.

There is currently a Supervised Injecting Centre which has been set up in order to help drug addicts in the area of Kings Cross in NSW. This centre provides care and support for those who need it most in the community.  This centre is called Sydney Medically Supervised Injecting Centre. Follow onto 'MSIC' to read about the current facility that has been established for drug users in the local area.
